Quiet From Chaos

From the authoritarian dictator, down to the ineffectual seat filler, most politicians seek quiet within the boundaries of their geographical and political power.  But quiet is much different than peace, which should be the concern of anyone chosen to represent people.  They seek quiet from the chaos that they preside over through physical force or the force of unjust law.  They deny peace - the presence of equal treatment and equal opportunity.

There were times of quiet in the days of American slavery, while the chaos of a system that stripped people of liberty reigned.

There were times of quiet as America grew in size and influence, but there was always the chaos of second class citizenship for women and minorities.

And world history, past and present, is full of similar conditions where authority is concentrated in the hands of one, stripping it from the many.

Power always demands quiet acquiescence from the chaos of its control, but it is up to people to deny that quiet by speaking out against injustice, voting out those who administer injustice rather than correcting it, and standing united with those who are oppressed.

By overthrowing chaos, we can provide ourselves the quiet that is derived from peace.

Quiet from Chaos is a project of music and information that hopes to examine and point out injustice and encourage action against it. The artwork currently displayed at the top of the page is meant to illustrate the restraint imposed on people.
